Executive Director Biography

Michael Prouty (Executive Director) - St. Paul, Minnesota

Prouty worked for 33-years with the US Forest Service, holding numerous positions around the country; in Washington DC, on several National Forests in the western United States, with two Forest Service Research Stations, and most recently as head of a field office in St. Paul, Minnesota, with the State and Private Forestry branch of the US Forest Service.

A native of Wisconsin, Prouty received a BS degree in Agricultural Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master's Degree in Forest Management from Oregon State University. Prouty is also a free-lance writer, specializing in articles on wilderness canoeing and other outdoors sports. He and his wife live in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Organization Description & Mission

The Great Lakes Forest Alliance, Inc. is a non-profit organization established to foster and facilitate cooperative efforts that enhance management and sustainable use of public and private forest lands in Michigan, Minnesota, Ontario, and Wisconsin.
